Bjørn was born on May 8th, 1822 in Vikedal, Rogaland.1 Bjørn's father was Gabriel Bjørnsen Hallingstad and his mother was Kari Bjørnsdatter. His paternal grandparents were Bjørn Gabrielsen Hallingstad and Brita Jonsdatter. He had seven sisters named Britha, Anna, Jensine, Brita, Johanne, Karina and Anna Gurina.
