Brita was born on March 13th, 1830 in Vikedal, Rogaland.1 Brita's father was Gabriel Bjørnsen Hallingstad and her mother was Kari Bjørnsdatter. Her paternal grandparents were Bjørn Gabrielsen Hallingstad and Brita Jonsdatter. She had a brother and six sisters, named Bjørn, Britha, Anna, Jensine, Johanne, Karina and Anna Gurina. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.General Notes
