Maren Andrea was born in 1834 in Adal i Borre, Vestfold.1 Maren Andrea's father was Christen Hansen and her mother was Helene Andersdatter. Her paternal grandparents were Hans Olsen and Mari Jacobsdatter. She had four brothers named Abraham, Jacob, Anders and Anton. She was the second youngest of the five children.
